    Linney lived down
    Larimore Lane,
    with her labradoodle,
    a joy she had gained.
    Her laugh loud and free,
left her mom with a plea,
    “Dear Lord, make her
    laughter more plain!”

Today tried me. Tried me HARD. I didn’t even brush my teeth good yet and the foolishness started. It was one thing after the next. Everything went boom, bam, and bust-up! By the time I reached school, I was ready to pack my teddy, my toothbrush, and my one good tennis and MOVE to Inagua, where, hopefully, the only thing trying me would be the mosquitoes.

A quaint story about values and comparisons, which belong in the classroom even though it has zero to do with math or science. The Greater-Than-Lesser-Than subject and calculations only work with numbers. When it comes to girls and boys, it does not work because people cannot be measured.

Hannah and Hector present a difficult topic in the most uplifting way. Anti-racism, (which can result in anti-bullying) and also self-worth has never been so easy to address.

There is a child somewhere with curly hair wishing it was straight, one skinny wanting not to be, one short dreaming of added inches, one who communicates differently and battles frustration, and one with undiscovered talents, hoping for some. Pompa Pumpity, the fart, was miserable and inconsolable about how he was made. He felt incomplete and thought that he should and could be more than he was.

Focusing only on outer features, the things that he lacked, made Pompa Pumpity’s gloom gloomier and added desperation to the mix of his bad feelings. Certain that having more would be fulfilling, Pompa Pumpity decided to fix this. He was mistaken, and had to learn of the untouchable truths within

There has always been something about Bay, a self-proclaimed flop whose only success, however serendipitously it came, was splashing out of depression.

When every living thing under the water is faced with endangerment, the very unlikely Bay faces her devout kingdom with an answer to their prayers: her secret and a deliverance. With this, tides changed for the mergirl. Forgotten was all that she lacked in the past: her failings, chronic self-doubt, and always being a far swim behind. To her delight, no longer was she discounted.

On the wave of her redemption, which leads to her being celebrated, she discovers something very telling. It hints that in Lucaya, a kingdom populated with pious mermans, she is swimming in waters polluted with a half-truth.

Overachiever alert: Gwendolyn is officially in Junior Junkanoo—and, of course, her brother Bevan, inventor of most of her problems, is in tow.

As she pastes and bedazzles her costume, she quickly realizes that this cultural celebration comes with a jaw-dropping price tag. She has tried everything to finish her masterpiece. Money—or rather, the lack of it—has her in a jam, and not the sweet, spread-on-toast kind she actually likes, but the sticky, can’t-get-out kind. Talk about a fruitless situation—in the end she wishes it were actually “fruitless.”

Her mother’s recommendation to solve her problem? A hard NO. Scratch that—a NEVER. She’s already taken too much from her Grammy, and even her bestie’s heroic assistance can’t quite fill the gap.

So… is Gwendolyn about to receive a miracle or two? Is the Junkanoo costume completion’s solution entirely man-made?

Either way, when the parade finally begins, the music is supposed to be the familiar clatter of Junkanoo’s cowbells, whistles, goat-skin drums, and lunka that influence dance moves, but standing at the very front of the line, Gwendolyn can’t help but do an involuntary, slightly horrified rendition of what looks like a frantic liturgical performance of another kind of Bahamian music: rake-n-scrape (make that rake and scratch). This situation proves to be a real, jam-packed disaster.

For discipline, she did not shout, squabble, spank, nor did she suspend privileges’ to correct the errors of her children. Those methods to correct and reform she considered were merely too temporary, too forgettable, to bring about any real and lasting change in behavior. The way she improved upon the behavior of her children, was unending. She stirred them to do what she wanted by putting chilling ideas, haunting scenarios and horrific consequences in their minds, that lasted, lingered and disturbed.
